Daidan Group, PT Mitrabahtera Segara Sejati (MBSS) Tbk, in collaboration with the Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL) and the Southeast Sulawesi Maritime and Fisheries Service, is committed to protecting and restoring marine ecosystems.
Evidence of this commitment was demonstrated by initiating and transplanting coral reefs on Bokori Island, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra), on Thursday (7/12/2023).
This coral reef transplant activity is in collaboration with OK Dive, BPSPL Makassar Southeast Sulawesi Satker, and involves the Faculty of Fisheries, Muhammadiyah University of Kendari (UMK), Haluoleo University (UHO), and the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Maritime and Fisheries Service.
CSR Assistant Manager of PT MBSS, Tito Prasetya, said that PT MBSS, PT Kemala Shipping, and PT Galley Adhika Arwama, which are under the same umbrella as the Daidan Group company, are shipping companies whose vision is to participate in preserving life in the sea.
"We hope that this CSR program, in collaboration with OK Dive Community, SDC, will be sustainable, and in line with the expectations of the Coral Stock Center area, this program can be an educational means for the younger generation, especially those in Kendari City," said Tito on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Together with BPSPL, this program follows the mission of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), namely, carrying out coral reef transplants.
Previously, mangrove planting had also been carried out in Kolaka, along with holding mangrove management training for the Mangrove Activist Community in Kolaka in collaboration with Sembilanbelas November University in Kolaka.
Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Supervisor for the Provincial Maritime and Fisheries Service, Laode Musdi, added that the Provincial Government of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) strongly supports this activity because coral reef transplantation is very important for the sustainability of the coral reef ecosystem.
Apart from being a home for marine biota, he continued, coral reefs can also be objects of research and places to be used as tourist destinations. Therefore, the provincial government ensures that these activities will continue by carrying out regular monitoring after planting.
Makassar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL), Southeast Sulawesi Working Unit, Jufri said that this is the second year that coral reef transplantation is being carried out, dropping as many as 200 spider model media this year. During the next planting, monitoring and replacement of dead coral fragments will be carried out.
The planting location is in the Bokori Island Coral Stock Center Area, which was established in 2021 by the Makassar Marine and Coastal Management Center and obtained a permit to utilize marine space with an area of 2.8 hectares," said Jufri.
The Coral Stock Center also functions as a provider of seeds so that rehabilitation activities in Southeast Sulawesi will be supplied from the Coral Stock Center, ensuring that no more is taken from nature. Apart from that, it can become a coral research location and, of course, an underwater tourist spot.
The representative of the OK DIVE Sultra Community, Moh Rais, also conveyed the same thing, stating that what was carried out in this activity was the removal of coral transplant media in the form of around 200 spider racks and four Vertical Artificial Reef (VAR) specifically for nurseries. After this activity took place, PT MBSS received a memento from the OK DIVE Sultra Community as a form of appreciation for being the Founding CSR.
